《天井 Celestial Well 》
Minglu Zeng was born in Anhai, a small town of Southeast China and graduated from Peking Univer-sity with a Master’s Degree majoring in Chinese Lin-guistics and Literature. She came to the U.S. in 1989 ,and has been a professional programmer for over six-teen years. In the meantime, she has pursued a spare-time career of creative writing. So far she has pub-lished poetry and prose collections, novels and short stories in Chinese. Her works have been printed on Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong literary magazines and papers and she has won several literary awards.

Poetry, a noble and lofty literary form, dates back to the earliest of human civilizations, and it was the very first step I took on the long flight leading into the Grand Hall of Literature. I started writing poems at elementary school, through middle-high school and university . . . and am still writing. In 2013 I published Point of Origin, the first collection of my Chinese poems, resulting from my unceasing endeavors in poetry writing while devoting more time and energy to fiction and prose.

From Point of Origin to Celestial Well, I have been exploring the lurking mystic all along while sticking to my characteristic approach to the stylistics. Recently I have found, as mentioned in “My Outlook on Poetry,” my steady approach wavering somewhat as I manipulate the language to a novel balance between the abstract and figurative expressions. Illustrations of such manipulation can be observed in my recent poems“Tianyu,” “The Face,” and others.
